OUR CURRENT SEASON: 2009 - 2010 From The 1950's
THE MUSIC MAN
December 10th-14th, 2009 Directed by Juna Broome Laugh at Meredith Willson's musical about con-man 'Professor' Harold Hill as he tries to fool the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a kid's band he vows to organize--despite the fact he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef! It features the famous songs '76 Trombones,' 'Good Night My Someone,' 'Ya Got Trouble' and the memorable Barbershop Quartet singing 'Good Night Ladies' and 'Lida Rose.' Director Juna Broome already has a huge cast in rehearsals for our exciting season opener. From the 1980's
CRIMES OF THE HEART
February 11th-14th, 2010 Directed by Michael Garner This hilarious southern gothic comedy will have you in stitches as three crazy sisters from Hazlehurst, Mississippi reunite at Old Grandaddy's home to hash out their troubled lives and the 'crimes of the heart' that each have committed. Mississippi author Beth Henley's humorous movie version starred Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek and Jessica Lange and garnered three Academy Award nominations. Michael Garner will direct this one for us and will be looking for three local gals to play these tragically funny roles. From the 1930's
YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU
April 22nd-25th, 2010 Directed by Cynthia Tittle Welborn This zany Kaufman & Hart comedy was the very first American comedy to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The film version starred James Stewart, Jean Arthur and Lionel Barrymore and was the highest-grossing picture of that year. Long time LLT member Cynthia Tittle Welborn will direct the story of a free-spirited family that has just one sane 'normal' daughter who brings her fiance and future in-laws to visit for a mapcap evening of craziness. From the 1960's
SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE
July 15th-18th, 2010 Directors Mike Weber & Jennifer Coghlan A musical revue of the hit pop songs of Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller-you might not know their names, but you'll remember what they wrote: 'Hound Dog,' 'On Broadway,' 'W-O-M-A-N,' "Love Potion #9,' 'Jailhouse Rock' and 'Spanish Harlem.' They started composing in the 1950's but hit their stride by the 1960's and defined the pop songs of that decade. This high energy show opened on Broadway in 1995 and became the longest running musical revue ever! Mike Weber and Jennifer Coghlan will co-direct this one for us. |
